About Us

Why be stuck with dull furniture when you can have your pick of beautiful pieces sourced from around the world at Raffertys?

When buying furniture, it’s important that you go to a retailer you can trust, and Raffertys offers a unique blend of expertise and outstanding customer service, always going the extra mile to surprise and delight you. The Hartlepool-based store stocks a wide range of furniture and accessories – traditionally it was known for oak, but it also has a huge range of accessories and furniture from around the world. .

Raffertys’ owners visit trade shows across the country looking out for unusual, unique products to bring to the Hartlepool shop, with a sister business, The Sofa & Bed Store, known for making bespoke beds and furniture. Raffertys is a true family business started in 1989, when owner Colin Rafferty was just 21. He saw that there was a gap in the local market for well-made furniture and has continued in the same vein for almost 30 years. Colin, his wife Glenda and three sons Joe, Charlie and Henry all work in the two shops and have the same passion for spotting new trends and supporting local designers and furniture makers. The family prides itself on being first to bring key trends to the area from around the world and when you buy something from Raffertys, you know you are getting a well-made, quality product.

The busiest and most exciting time for Raffertys is the run-up to Christmas – the family starts planning and buying products for its renowned Christmas window a full 12 months before. People visit from around the region just to see the window, often getting out of their cars to have pictures taken. Real show-stopper products in previous windows have been giant tin soldiers, nutcrackers and giant polar bears. The Christmas window is done in the middle of October, giving customers plenty of time to see it. Whatever your furniture needs, and whatever your tastes, you’re guaranteed to find something you love at Raffertys. Why not come along and see for yourself?
